Summary

Reporting to the Director of Clinical Operations, the Laboratory Group Leader is responsible for day-to-day management of Research Assistants along with coordinating laboratory work for all ongoing studies. Additionally, the Laboratory Group Leader will ensure that employees are properly trained and competent with all techniques and will monitor the quality of laboratory work and documentation to ensure compliance with applicable requirements.

Responsibilities

More specifically, you will participate in the following:

  • Perform day-to-day management of employees;
  • Plan and coordinate laboratory work for all current and future projects, setting priorities and resolving scheduling conflicts with other group/team leaders;
  • Collaborate with other group/team leaders to ensure employees are properly tasked;
  • Demonstrate technical skills for conducting methods (flow cytometry, ELISpot);
  • Ensure technical/scientific integrity of tests performed;
  • Ensure through regular inspections that employees perform work in accordance with GLP and CellCarta SOPs;
  • Plan and supervise training of laboratory employees to ensure proficiency in the methods used;
  • Ensure that employees perform their work efficiently;
  • Coach employees on how to perform work correctly and effectively;
  • Implement appropriate and effective corrective actions in the laboratory to minimize GLP non-compliances;
  • Identify employee training needs and areas for career development;
  • Follow up with employees on performance;
  • Participate in audits carried out by government agencies or clients.

Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in life sciences, with a preference for immunology.

Main Requirements

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience as a team leader;
  • Working knowledge of general laboratory operations, with emphasis on biological analysis techniques;
  • Good knowledge of the following techniques: blood sample processing, cell counting and cryopreservation techniques, cell culture techniques, immunostaining procedures, immune monitoring techniques, such as flow cytometry and ELISpot;
  • Excellent knowledge of quality systems, such as GCP, GCLP, ISO/IEC 17025, 15189 and CAP;
  • Knowledge of biohazard containment procedures and protocols, safety procedures and guidelines;
  • Excellent leadership skills;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Flexible to guide/support team during and outside business hours ;
  • Ability to make appropriate decisions, particularly under tight deadlines and in complex situations;
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work for self and others;
  • Excellent communication skills (French and English);
  • Strong quality mindset.
