Summary
The Histotechnologist is responsible for performing immunohistochemical and histochemical staining, as well as reagent preparation, including antibody dilutions. Other duties include troubleshooting assay and instrument issues, ordering supplies, monitoring receipt of materials, monitoring equipment preventive maintenance (PM), and performing routine equipment maintenance. May also perform processing, embedding, and sectioning of FFPE samples.
Responsibilities
More specifically, you will participate in the following:
- Perform immunohistochemical staining and troubleshooting for multiple staining platforms/instruments - following SOPs and protocols;
- Prepare and QC reagents and solutions according to SOPs or approved written instructions;
- Prepare and QC antibody dilutions according to SOPs or approved written instructions;
- Perform histochemical staining according to SOPs and protocols;
- May section FFPE samples according to SOPs or approved written instructions;
- May section frozen samples according to SOPs or approved written instructions;
- Perform clinical, non-clinical, and internal research projects approved by management;
- Perform accessioning, transcription, QC of sectioning, ordering of supplies, filing of stained slides and paperwork, and IHC setup as needed;
- Monitor the completion status of projects as assigned;
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of all assays and results;
- Ensure appropriate training of laboratory staff, including general background, a review of the technique, troubleshooting, and initial hands-on demonstrations;
- Write reports and summaries of projects and present them to the supervisor, if requested;
- Assist in the preventative maintenance of equipment and ensure documentation of equipment maintenance is completed in a timely manner;
- Responsible for other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.
Education
- A bachelor’s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical, or biological science; or an associate degree in chemical, physical, or biological science, or medical laboratory science - or equivalent education and training - is preferred;
- To perform moderate- or high-complexity clinical sample testing, or inclusion criteria testing for clinical trials, the candidate must meet CLIA personnel requirements.
Main Requirements
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience preferred; 1-2 years with an HT/HTL certification;
- Experience with routine paraffin microtomy is required;
- Experience with frozen sectioning is a plus;
- Strong collaboration and teamwork skills, with effective communication and a willingness to learn.
Working Conditions
- Must occasionally life and/or move up to 25 pounds;
- Working hours are Monday to Friday, 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM, with 100% onsite attendance required.
