Summary
The Laboratory Technician II is responsible for performing high complexity testing and other duties that may be performed by a medical laboratory scientist. Responsibilities include performing and reviewing FISH (fluorescent in situ hybridization) slides, immunohistochemistry, preparation and isolation of mononuclear cells, and other laboratory testing methods as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Perform technical FISH processing in accordance with established SOPs
  • Perform FISH review and analysis in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Perform immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization and special stains procedures
  • Performs sample preparation such as cell isolation from blood sample, cryopreservation, thawing, counting
  • Process cell pellets and blood samples for advanced testing methodologies
  • Prepares solutions and reagents
  • Performs equipment maintenance, calibration, and cleaning
  • Accession sample information into a Laboratory Information System
  • Retrieve / Store samples electronically and at appropriate temperature
  • Execute, and/or validate new procedures and techniques
  • Disposes of hazardous chemical wastes per regulatory guidelines.
  • Manage inventory levels and supply ordering
  • Ability to utilize a laboratory information management system (LIMs, MS Office)
  • Adhere to laboratory’s quality control policies (GCP, CAP/CLIA, ISO) and document all quality control activities with the ability to recognize outliers and correct
     
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college/university in the Biological Sciences (qualified to perform high complexity testing).

Qualifications
  • Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP); preferably HT, MT, or similar
  • Certification by the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) in Cytogenetics (CLSp-CG) is preferred
  • Experience in a GLP/GCLP or BSL2 lab environment
  • Previous testing experience in cytogenetic/FISH testing and analysis highly preferred
  • PBMC isolation and cryopreservation experience preferred
  • Precise and detail-orientated
  • Experience working with MS Office
  • Ability to write and speak fluently in English
     
Working Conditions
  • Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm
  • Must accept to perform activities in a Biosafety Level (BSL) 1 or 2 laboratory where biological samples may be either naturally or experimentally infected with potentially hazardous viruses such as HIV, HCV, or CMV.
